Amyloid-forming proteins can aggregate under different structural conformations known as strains, which can exhibit a prion-like behavior and distinct pathophenotypes.

The transitions between two states of a bistable system are investigated experimentally and analyzed in the framework of rare-event statistics. Considering a disk pendulum swept by a flow in a wind tunnel, bistability between two aerodynamic branches is observed, with spontaneous transitions from one branch to the other.

The first 4MOST Low-Resolution Spectrograph (LRS-A) has now reached "first light" (or first spectra) in the CRAL integration hall in Lyon, France. These first exposures were taken through the blue channel.

The European Research Council (ERC) has just communicated the list of awardees for the "Advanced" grants. Each laureate has a budget of up to 2.5 million euros for their research project. France ranks third with 22 awarded projects behind Germany (40) and the UK (51).

The Academic influence website recently published a list of the 10 most influential scientists for their exciting and innovative contributions to the study of Earth sciences. Among them is Isabelle Daniel, a former student of the ENS de Lyon and member of the Laboratory of geology of Lyon.

The ENS-IISER cooperation network (11 institutions), with the support of the French Embassy in India, is hosting its first ever franco-indian virtual workshop on the 10th & 11th of May 2021. The theme of this year workshop coincides with what the academic world has been confronted with in the last year: "pedagogy in a pandemic world".
