On November 26, 2024, students, researchers and administrative and support staff got together to finalize the development of a vast area of land at the entrance to Aix Marseille Université’s Saint-Jérôme campus, which was desilted in 2023.
This step is a continuation of the efforts undertaken, in particular the selective late mowing carried out last week. This area is part of the desilting demonstrator of the European CARDIMED project, led by the LCE for amU, which aims to experiment with and promote nature-based solutions to combat the effects of climate change.
The intervention involved sowing a diversified mixture of Provençal plant seeds, representing some thirty species that may be naturally present and that will be able to serve as a resource for pollinators from spring onwards. These seeds, from a local source, were distributed according to several sowing protocols. This approach aims to strike an optimum balance between work time and drudgery, while guaranteeing a satisfactory aesthetic and ecological result.
This collaborative action, bringing together DEPIL, IMBE and CARDIMED ecologists, reflects the commitment of Aix Marseille Université’s Sustainable Development Department (DDD) to preserving biodiversity and improving the quality of life on its campuses.
