Crises in Mediterranean societies and social mobilizations - Institut SoMuM back-to-school conference (November 13, 2023)

SoMuM is organizing its back-to-school conference on Monday November 13 from 2 to 4 pm, as part of its "Mediterranean Studies" doctoral program. Linked to Axis 1 "Transitions, sustainable destabilization and crises", which is part of the Institute’s research orientations, this conference will address crises in Mediterranean societies and the social mobilizations that result from them.

This theme will be addressed in two ways. The first will present the long historical processes and the historian’s approach to lasting destabilization perceived as unprecedented and untimely crises. The second will examine the difficulties of exploring a field in crisis from a distance. The capacities for action and creativity of both populations and scientists will be examined.

Crises in the Maghreb and capacities for action and mobilization: around the book Histoire du Maghreb depuis les indépendances (Karima Dirèche, Aurelia Dusserre, Nessim Znaien)

Speaker: Aurelia Dusserre, Aix-Marseille University, CNRS, IREMAM

Over the past sixty years, the Maghreb has undergone intense upheaval affecting its structures, institutional frameworks and societies. The aim is to present some of these dynamics from a global perspective that cuts across the three Maghreb countries, highlighting a number of recent events that bear witness to the crises experienced by these societies, but also to their diverse capacities for action and mobilization.

Studying mobilizations in the Mediterranean in a context of crisis: approaches, methods and tools for a research pathway
