Aix-Marseille Université, via the Institute of NeuroPhysiopathology (INP), and Nikon Europe B.V. have joined forces to create the Nikon Center of Excellence for Neuro-NanoImaging. It will be inaugurated on Thursday, September 22, starting at 12:30 p.m. in the presence of Philippe Delaporte, Vice President Research and Nicolas André, Vice President Health of Aix-Marseille Université, Aurélie Philippe, Regional Delegate CNRS Provence and Corsica, Alain Angèle, General Manager of the Health Division, France-Benelux Branch of Nikon Europe B.V. and Daniel Ciepielewski, General Manager of Nikon Instruments Europe B.V.

Program of this inauguration day:
- A morning of scientific meetings with interventions of experts in imaging,
- The official inauguration with speeches and ribbon cutting,
- Guided tours (upon registration) offered by Christophe Leterrier, director of the Center, to discover the latest microscopes.
This Center of Excellence, housed within the Neurocellular Imaging Service (NCIS) of INP, aims to focus on how super-resolution technologies can help understand brain cells and their dysfunctions. It provides neurobiology researchers in Marseille and beyond with three super-resolution microscopy techniques tailored to the subcellular study of neuronal function:
- Super-resolution rotating disk (Nikon SoRa) that provides fast and delicate imaging with optical sectioning at ~150 nm resolution, ideal for live-cell imaging.
- Structured Illumination Microscopy (Nikon N-SIM) that provides robust, multicolor imaging with 2x gain (~120 nm lateral resolution) compared to diffraction-limited fluorescence microscopy.
- Stochastic Optical Reconstruction Microscopy (Nikon N-STORM) that reaches for ~20 nm detail to dissect the nanoscale organization of macromolecular complexes directly in cells.
About the Neurocellular Imaging Service (NCIS) at INP
The Neurocellular Imaging Service (NCIS) is part of the NeuroTimone photonic imaging platform (PImaNT). It provides access to light microscopes for neuroscientists who want to observe molecular and cellular processes to better understand nervous system functions and dysfunctions. In addition to traditional wide-field and confocal microscopes, NCIS offers more advanced techniques such as live-cell imaging, TIRF, and super-resolution microscopy (STORM). NCIS staff also provide technical advice, assistance and training to answer scientific questions in imaging and analysis.
