Description

Mosquitoes were orally infected with the chikungunya virus. Midguts were dissected at day 5 post-infection, fixed and permeabilised. Virus is shown in red (anti-E2 protein, cyanine 3), the actin network in green (phalloidin 548) and nuclei in blue (DAPI).

A postdoctoral position is available beginning April 2020 at the Institut Pasteur, Paris to work in a US NIH-funded project on genetic variation of mosquito cis-regulatory elements (transcription enhancers), associated chromatin biology, and mosquito immunity to infection by malaria parasites and arboviruses. Candidates will ideally have previous experience with enhancer or chromatin biology and/or insect innate immunity, with skills in biological computation.

The project focuses on the genetic polymorphism of noncoding regulatory elements underlying differences among mosquitoes for pathogen infection. The rationale is based on the observation that noncoding regulatory variation controls >90% of phenotypic variation in animals. The postdoc will leverage new genomic resources on mosquito enhancers and chromatin to study the influence of functional noncoding variation for malaria and arbovirus infection outcome in the mosquito vector. (Relevant previous publications, Science 2006 PMID: 16645095; Science 2011 PMID: 21292978; PNAS 2015 PMID: 25548172; Sci Rep 2019 PMID: 31649293). The project is a collaboration with the Michelle Riehle lab at Medical College of Wisconsin, US.
