Agroscope is the Swiss federal centre of excellence for research in the agriculture and food sector. Its researchers carry out their work at a number of sites in Switzerland. Headquarted in Bern-Liebefeld, Agroscope is attached to the Swiss Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research EAER.
Based at the Tänikon site (canton of Thurgau), the Socioeconomics Research Group deals with issues of sustainable agricultural policy and the development of agricultural markets.

Staff Research Scientist - Trade and Market Analysis

The Socioeconomics Research Group conducts scientifically substantiated ex ante and ex post evaluations for the attention of policy decision-makers. Trade policy decisions in particular must be well prepared and their effects fully examined. If you enjoy quantitative market modelling and are enthusiastic about socially and politically relevant research in the fields of market analysis and agricultural policy evaluation, we look forward to receiving your application.


  • Analysing the competitiveness of Swiss trading in agricultural products and food, bearing in mind ecological aspects and the effects of non-tariff trade barriers (e.g. import quotas, subsidies, product standards).
  • Estimating parameters for exports, imports and domestic demand to support the maintenance and further development of models used for policy advice.
  • Conducting studies on the impacts of agricultural policy scenarios for policy decision-makers and compiling reports for the attention of the government.
  • Publishing your findings in national and international journals and presenting them at conferences.
  • Taking part, together with your colleagues, in the acquisition of third-party funds.


  • Doctorate in a relevant subject area in the field of agricultural economics or macroeconomics
  • Experience of publication in international peer-reviewed journals
  • Sound knowledge of quantitative trade modelling and the functioning of equilibrium models
  • Knowledge of further empirical evaluation methods an advantage
  • Achievement-oriented, team-minded personality
  • Good communication skills and an independent, meticulous way of working are prerequisites
  • Knowledge of two official Swiss languages, good English skills (working language is German and English)
