Agroscope sucht:

Postdoctoral Researcher, ’Economic Evaluation of Grassland Ecosystem Services’

The Agroscope research programme ’Indicate’ focuses on developing indicators for positive and negative envi-ronmental impacts of farms. These indicators, which are to be collected with the support of new digital technol-ogies, are intended to support farmers in easily identifying and optimising the ecological services provided by their farms. At the same time, the indicators are meant to support the development of agricultural policy.

The IndiGras-Project is one of the nine research projects of the Indicate Research Programme. It aims to devel-op an indicator system for evaluating ecosystem services (ESs) in grassland from an ecological and economic perspective. In addition, this project aims to show how ESs can be optimised at farm level through different management of the grassland plots. The project is based on a unique dataset collected at plot level as part of the earlier ’ServiceGrass’ project and encompassing 18 ecosystem services.

For the economic part of the IndiGras Project, we are looking for a Postdoctoral Researcher to work as part of an interdisciplinary team on the economic assessment of grassland ESs and their optimisation.

  • Developing a concept for the economic assessment of the grassland ESs being studied
  • Participation in the following tasks in close cooperation with another postdoctoral researcher addressing the natural scientific part of the project:
  • Developing and implementing a concept for upscaling the ESs from plot to farm (i.e. over the entire grassland area)
  • Defining the farm types for which the ESs are to be modelled for the farm as a whole
  • Defining scenarios for optimising the ESs of the various farm types
  • Carrying out the economic ESs assessment for the defined farm types and scenarios
  • Empirical environmental economic research on the multifunctionality of grassland
  • Publications in scientific journals and in the Green press
  • Presentation of research results at national and international conferences
  • Active participation in the synthesis of the research programme and in knowledge transfer

  • A doctorate in agricultural, environmental or resource economics, or in a related discipline
  • Experience in the economic assessment of ecosystem services is a ’plus’.
  • An interest in agri-environmental economic research issues
  • The ability to work interdisciplinary at the interface between natural sciences and economics
  • Good knowledge of statistics or econometrics as well as experience working with statistical software (R or Stata)
  • Committed, achievement-oriented and team-minded personality
  • Independent and meticulous approach to work
  • Good communication skills
  • Good knowledge of two official Swiss languages; very good knowledge of English
