The School of Pharmaceutical Sciences is part of the Faculty of Science and together with the “Centre de recherche et d’innovation en sciences pharmaceutiques cliniques (CRISP)”, based at the University of Lausanne, constitutes the Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences of Western Switzerland (ISPSO). The School of Pharmaceutical Sciences has been among the best Schools of Pharmacy in the world for several years (in the QS ranking, it is regularly placed in the top 30 worldwide and in the top 10 in Europe). The School has contributed to positioning the University of Geneva as "the second largest European innovation player".

The School offers a dynamic and very stimulating research environment. With more than 600 students and a new high quality infrastructure allowing it to host collaborations in the best possible conditions, it is distinguished by the excellent quality of its research and by its cosmopolitan outlook, reflected by the international mix of its professors, post-doctoral fellows, research students and undergraduates.

Description

Analytical Sciences have contributed to the reputation of the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences as a center of excellence in pharmaceutical research and this opening for a new chair of “Pharmaceutical Analysis” confirms and underlines the importance of this discipline. This will be a full-time appointment (i.e.100 %). Duties will include teaching at all levels and research activities. The successful candidate is expected to raise external research funding and will have to fulfil management and organizational duties within the institution. The selected candidate must contribute to the advancement of the Analytical Sciences related to new therapeutic entities and the development of innovative methodologies to create a cutting-edge and internationally recognized research and education program in pharmaceutical analysis. The success of new complex therapeutics has created new challenges in pharmaceutical analysis. As a result, innovative techniques and methodologies must be found to meet demands concerning the number of components that must be separated in complex or minute matrices. Our existing state-of-the-art equipment will fully facilitate this research activity. Research into analytical methodology to measure pharmaceuticals at the patient point-of-care (e.g. patient bedside, patient’s home, at the pharmacy) or more specific issues such as single cell analysis approaches would also be of great interest for the School.

Requirements

  • PhD degree or equivalent.
  • The candidate must have a strong background in the theory and practice of analytical separation science (incl. MS) and/or in the field of spectroscopic/imaging analysis.
  • The candidate must be able to collaborate with a large variety of research groups, both within and outside analytical chemistry.
  • The candidate should have an international reputation in his/her field, a strong publication record and demonstrated the ability to obtain extramural funding from national and/or international bodies.
  • The candidate must be fluent in English and must be keen on learning the French language within two years.
