The Foundation National Institute for Cancer Epidemiology and Registration (NICER) is a national centre of excellence for cancer registration and epidemiologic cancer research that operates the National Agency for Cancer Registration (NACR) on behalf of the Swiss federal government. Since January 2020, institutions that diagnose and/or treat cancer or its precursors in Switzerland are obliged by the Cancer Registration Act to report specific data to the cantonal cancer registries or the national children’s cancer registry. The task s of the NACR are to ensure that the collected data are harmonized standardized and further developed in line with international standards, as well as to provide national data for public health surveillance, health care planning and research at national and international levels. The NACR cooperates with all important stakeholders: cantonal cancer registries and the paediatric cancer registry, the Federal Office of Statistics, the conference of cantonal health directors, professional organisations, and the Federal Office of Public Health, which also finances and supervises NACR.

NICER seeks a highly qualified, goal - oriented person for the following position:

Director, 60 – 80 %

Description

  • Head and management of the national agency for cancer registration;
  • Team management;
  • Development of the strategy for national cancer monitoring and health reporting;
  • Production of pooled national cancer statistics and publication of results in accordance with the law;
  • Creation of annual working plans and evaluation of achieved results;
  • Implementation of communication concepts; health reporting and annual operational reports;
  • Establishment and supervision of an internal quality management system;
  • Promotion of collaborative epidemiological cancer research;
  • Fundraising for research activities;
  • Coordination with cantonal cancer registries and other cancer stakeholders (CH and abroad);
  • Provision of epidemiological and statistical services to cantonal cancer registries and other relevant partners, including data deliveries;
  • Accountability function towards the NICER Foundation Council and the Federal Office of Public Health.

Requirements

  • Excellent management and leadership skills;
  • Experience in complex project management;
  • High social and communication skills; rich networking experiences;
  • Strong analytical and research skills;
  • Experience in cancer registration (or in registration of other chronic diseases) including data management;
  • Good understanding of cancer epidemiology;
  • IT proficiency;
  • Oral and written fluency in English with good skills in German and/or French.
