Aix-Marseille Université’s Faculty of Law and Political Science distinguishes itself at the Charles-Rousseau and European Law Moot Court competitions

The Charles-Rousseau and European Law Moot Court competitions are particularly prestigious mock trial competitions in international law and European Union law. The students of the Master 1 International and European Law participate every year. During this great adventure, the Aix-Marseille team was the winner of this 2022 edition.

The Charles-Rousseau Competition is open to teams of students charged with defending the interests of two fictitious Parties in an imaginary dispute before an international court. The universities meet in a series of rounds that include a written phase (filing of briefs) and an oral phase (oral arguments).

The final of the Competition pitted 15 teams against each other in Brest between May 9 and 14, 2022. Aix-Marseille Université team was composed of Zoé CASENOVE, Nadia CHÉRIF, Alouss DOUMBIA, Sayouba KABORÉ, Nicolas ROCHOY, Orianne TAHIRI and Olivia ZONGO. It was represented in Brest by Eva CHABOT, Chloé GÉRONIMI, Claire LE MASNE DE CHERMONT and Solène POLAERT as litigators. The students were supervised by Pierre COUTURIER and Habib Badjinri TOURÉ, both doctoral students in international law and ATER at CERIC (UMR DICE). Aix-Marseille Université team also won the prizes for the third best dissertations in the competition, the best litigator in the final (Solène POLAERT, also third best litigator in the competition) and the sixth best litigator in the competition (Claire LE MASNE DE CHERMONT).

The European Law Moot Court competition is a bilingual competition that pits teams of students against each other on issues of European Union law. The AMU team was thus distinguished.

The competition begins with a written phase before regional finals and then a Europe-wide final that allows candidates to plead before judges of the Court of Justice of the European Union. The international final took place from May 4 to 6, 2022 in Luxembourg. The AMU team was represented by Lucie BARONE, Manon BOUSMIA, Pamina HAELLER and Luca NICCO, supported by Lisa VATA and Sarah ZAGLOL HESSEN and coached by Anaïs BERENI, ATER in European Union law at CERIC (UMR DICE). On this occasion, Luca NICCO won the final as the representative of the Commission. The commitment of all the members of these 2 teams allowed AMU and its Faculty of Law to distinguish themselves.

Congratulations to our students and their coaches!!!
