The success of students in the university environment has aroused specific interest, leading to the implementation of various actions, among which is peer tutoring. This study aims to determine the learning operations involved in the process of empowering first-year undergraduate students, as well as effective tutorial approaches to foster this development.
Peer tutoring, as a form of individualized support, offers several significant advantages, including the development of autonomy. Autonomy, seen as a process requiring critical reflection, emerges from various learning operations supported by peers and anchored in the student’s zone of proximal development. Peer tutoring places students at the heart of their learning, fostering the development of autonomy and thus contributing to academic success.
The study is based on a comparative analysis of dyads formed by tutored students and tutors, from various disciplines, distinguishing between tutors trained in the PAUCANA teaching unit and those who are not. The aim of the research is twofold: to develop empowerment guidelines and to understand the role of tutoring in student success at Aix-Marseille University. By focusing on the link between tutoring and autonomy, the study aims to demonstrate that these elements are essential levers towards academic success.
