Luc Trouche’s scientific visit to China

- FR- EN
Emeritus Professor at IFE, Luc Trouche has been invited for a scientific visit to Beijing Normal University during the months of March and April 2024. Here’s a look back at a rich and varied scientific stay, as part of the ProSFER and JoRISS cooperation programs.

Luc Trouche, Emeritus Professor in mathematics didactics at the French Institute of Education (IFE), has been invited for a scientific visit to Beijing Normal University (BNU) during the months of March and April 2024. This invitation is a continuity of the strong collaboration between the Ecole Normale Supérieure de Lyon and the East China Normal University (ECNU), anchored in the PRoSFER and JoRISS scientific cooperation programs.

This visit, with its rich and varied program, allowed Luc Trouche to work on five different campuses. He also collaborated closely with colleagues from ECNU and his three former doctoral students, whose theses he co-mentored as part of the JoRISS and PRoSFER programs.

On the various campuses, he actively participated in conferences and seminars on major topics in educational science and mathematics teaching. Key topics included "Questioning the future of mathematics teaching" and "Understanding mathematics teachers’ work in a changing world".

As Emeritus Professor, he enriched the academic exchanges by comparing French and Chinese practices, notably during a conference focusing on "a journey to the heart of mathematics education", enabling examples from both countries to be explored.

Alongside his productive engagement in numerous conferences and seminars, Luc Trouche has also been involved in training activities, notably teaching first-year doctoral students at the Institute of Curriculum and Pedagogy of ECNU for six weeks, enabling him to immerse himself fully in the Chinese academic environment and share his expertise.

Luc Trouche shared his observations, noting "the focus of Chinese normal universities (in particular BNU and ECNU) on the quality and openness of teams in the field of education". He described his academic stay as highly fruitful and enriching, enabling existing relations with Chinese partners to be deepened. He remarked that the two-month experience was "rich in lessons" and that "the interactions with curious and committed colleagues and students were particularly stimulating".

As proof of the continuity and reinforcement of this cooperation, Luc Trouche has been invited back to speak at a conference on curricular change scheduled to take place at BNU in October. "I’ll be happy to attend" he says, underlining the importance and continuity of these academic exchanges.
